The Mariner’s Cove Suburban Project on Vallejo waterfront is set to be completed in 2020. This project will bring a new residential community to the area, and it will feature 1,200 residential units in a variety of sizes and styles. There will also be several commercial spaces available for lease, including retail stores and restaurants.

The Vallejo Design Review Board will hold a public meeting today to discuss Mariner’s Cove, an infill development that would create 175 new single-unit homes around retail and two parks on vacant 27-acre swaths of land in the Northern Waterfront Area. The project will create new housing for the most populous city in Solano County by building on land that is currently vacant. Callahan Property Company, the company responsible for developing this new community, submitted an application with this plan.

The housing will be clustered into two areas emanating from the 4.15-acre Promenade Park Extension (PPE). The Lowline’s architect firm, Raad Studio, said that their designs “will provide an array of quintessential New York City living options” while being conscious not to disrupt current urban life in nearby neighborhoods like Little Mexico and Avenal.

The promenade park will be located across Harbor Way, near the retail structures and associated surface parking. Three single-story buildings housing stores of various kinds will occupy these properties, with their large fiberglass boat on display as a welcome sign to visitors. The three structures will be around 6,000 square feet and the fourth structure—the largest of them all at 10,000 square feet.

Gates + Associates, a Walnut Creek-based firm, is responsible for landscape design. SDG Architects—also based in Walnut Creek—is responsible for the overall architectural look of each home. The homes will feature two distinct interior designs: modern farmhouse or Spanish revival. Collaborative Design Architects, working with Ruggieri-Jensen-Azar as civil engineer, will be responsible for the design of the retail space.

In 2007, the proposal for Mariner’s Cove was first floated by Donald Callahan. In 2018, he submitted plans that were still pending final entitlement when this article appeared in print.
