San Pablo Bay has a new restaurant that will appeal to fans of the waterfront building at Richmond’s Point San Pablo Harbor. The building, recently home to the popular Black Star Pirate BBQ, will now be home to a unique dining experience by a Chez Panisse alum.
Yaella Frankel, a Point San Pablo Harbor property co-owner, said that the name of the business is being workshopped and that the former space of Black Star Pirate BBQ is under renovation. The restaurant is expected to transform into an outdoor dining destination to take advantage of its seaside location.

The owners of Richmond’s waterfront Bourdon Street Harbor Complex have announced that the longtime chef-owner behind city catering company Anaviv, and the pandemic-era restaurant Open Market, will operate the new restaurant. Arnon Oren, who owned Anaviv before it shuttered in 2015, is planning to serve a menu of wood-fired pizzas, seafood stew, and brisket at the as-yet-unnamed new eatery.
The new restaurant will not be Oren or Anaviv’s first time running a sit-down eatery. The company has been operating private dining experiences at its facilities, located between Marina Bay and Point Richmond, and hosts many corporate events. It also operated a temporary open-air eatery during pandemic-related lockdown, called Open Market by Anaviv, which has since closed.
Oren has a passion for organic gardening, which he honed through his involvement with the Richmond-based program Plant to Plate. He also co-founded a culinary internship program for kids in Richmond called Plant to Plate and serves as a Richmond Economic Development Committee commissioner.
“With each experience, I have gained wisdom about cooking and the honor of bringing food to someone’s table,” he writes on the Anaviv site.

Point San Pablo Harbor is a small town that overlooks San Pablo Bay, located in Richmond, California. It is also home to eye-catching Burning Man sculptures and a small farm with goats and chickens. In addition, the harbor boasts a simple outdoor event space consisting primarily of a waterfront meadow, outdoor bar, and clubhouse, where the harbor owners host public concerts and other events.
